Public Political Campaign Events
This page outlines the requirements for hosting public political campaign events at UW–Madison, including events for candidates seeking election or re-election to public office, and/or public events intended to influence referendum or ballot measures.
Public Political Campaign Event Requests
Requests for all public political campaign events to be held at UW–Madison must be made through the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration (VCFA) via the designated web form linked below. All requests made directly to campus venues will not be honored.
Submitted requests will receive an initial response within 24 hours. If submitted over the weekend, the response time might exceed 24 hours. After the request is received, VCFA will work with the appropriate campus offices to assess the campus’ ability to support the event.
After gathering all the necessary facts, VCFA, in consultation with appropriate offices on campus, will make a final recommendation to the Chancellor’s Office, where a final decision will be made; the final decision will then be conveyed to the campaign contact.
If approved, VCFA will refer the campaign to the appropriate venue contact and UWPD for coordination.
Applicable Policies for Public Political Campaign Events
All public campaign visits are governed by the UW–Madison’s Use of Facilities and Land policy (UW-6000), Use of University of Wisconsin-Madison Facilities for Political Purposes policy (UW-6001), and Guidelines for Political Activity and Public Advocacy on Campus, as well as all applicable UW System policies.
Registered Student Organizations (RSOs)
RSOs may only use university facilities for events for political purposes that are primarily for students, faculty, and staff. RSOs may not host public events for political purposes on campus that are open to the public.
